A modifier is a keyword placed in a class, method or variable declaration that changes how it operates. In the Java programming language the following keywords are modifiers: abstract, final, native, private, protected, public, static, strictfp, synchronized, transient, and volatile.


This static constant is declared using the public, static and final modifiers:

public static final int maxItemNameLength = 20;
