For the eagle-eyed amongst you, you'll notice that this release skips a number. There is no Java 6 Update 28 - this was an internal build not publicly released. Java 6 Update 29 takes care of the bug fixes that would have been delivered with Update 28.
Java 6 Update 29 is available to download from Oracle's Java download page. The release notes show this to be mainly a security update with a few bug fixes.
Check the security update advisory to see the security fixes listed. They match the fixes in the Java 7 Update 1 release.

I have finally solved a major problem to my computer that involved it not booting properly. After searching the internet for solutions, I eventually uninstalled AVG antivirus software. That solved the problem. System restores did not. HOWEVER, I did notice that my AVG was working perfectly until I installed Java 6 update 29. That’s when my problems started!
I hope this post helps someone.
Cheers.
yup! i think there’s a serious bug in this latest Java update (6.0.29). My applications have been behaving wildly since this last java update last week, including my Firefox (ver. 3.6.23). I even lost an entire list module in another application!!! Aaaaarrghhh….!!! This morning i decided to uninstall them (from Windows & Firefox add-ons). And voila! Everything goes back to normal again.
The Update 6.0.290 definitely has bugs:
A. Windows 7 Ultimate x64 & Chrome (15.0.874.106 m) kept on telling me I needed to install plugins to make certain websites (Gmail) work. After going through the Java plugin steps suggested by the Problems Installing link I eventually resolved this issue. Chrome restart required
B. Windows Vista with Chrome & IE 9 had issues with regards maintaining internet connection over Wireless. performed system restore to point before Update 6.0.290 installed and all is working fine again.
Since Update 29 my GeoServer cannot connect to SQL Server database. Keeps hanging to connect.
Win 7 x64
HTH
Java update 29 doesn’t work properly with Blackboard learning system, but even worst, it doesn’t let me uninstall it to downgrade to earlier version!!!! Any advise??
Thanks!!!
Java 6 update 30 is out and contains a bug fix which started occurring with the Java 6 update 29 release. I think it was a knock on effect to one of the security fixes. Try upgrading to update 30 and see if it solves your problem.
Please come back and let us know if it does the trick. Thanks.
