Enigma Machine Java Applet

Tuesday November 4, 2008

Ah hah, I've found some like minded people at Cool Applets, a blog that highlights Java applets on the Internet. From their collection, the one that really caught my eye was a blast from the past - Russell Schwager's Enigma machine simulator. If you want to start confusing your friends, what better way than to start encoding your emails?

It boggles the mind to consider how hard it is to try and crack the code without knowing the state of the Enigma machine that created it. There's also some excellent links on the site if you fancy taking a step back to World War II and the art of code breaking.
