Time to Celebrate Unshackling Software

Friday September 12, 2008
Get the Source

Next Saturday, it's Software Freedom Day. A day set aside to celebrate software that also publishes its source code. Giving us the ability to see what the software does and even modify it is something I didn't expect major corporations to do when I first started programming.

The 20th is a day to celebrate and educate the adoption of open source software. It's also an excuse to have a beer and a few burnt offerings from the nearest barbecue. Don't forget Java became open source this year. Maybe spend the day looking behind the scenes of your favorite programming language. It's just sitting there waiting to be downloaded.
